How do I weigh my gold and can someone tell me what I should expect to get if I try to sell it ? Do gold sovereigns sell by the date of the coin or by the weight?

You will get robbed!

Sovereigns have a real market and can easily be checked out on line, try ebay.

For the rest, work out what it is and remember a 9ct object is actually copper with 37.5% gold to make believe its "Gold."

Real gold is about $1100 an ounce which is 31 grams or about £24 a gram.

Thanks David, do i price the sovereign by the date? Is there a website which would help me ? I was thinking of selling on ebay. Can I weigh my gold on normal kitchen scales ?? i went to an Antique Fair today and took the gold with me, but there was hardly any gold on the stalls, and I brought it home again.
Sorry I am not that knowledgeable my interest is in the production end not the retail one.

I do feel sorry for anyone who sells to these new "Sell your gold merchants" who are robbing people blind. Often they price 18ct as the same as 9ct.

I would never use those companies on the tellie ! Funnily a location company used my kitchen once for filming one of those Gold ads so I got a good price without selling anything !!
