I find it insane that criminals have so many rights under the human rights act about the treatment they receive in prision for commiting crimes againest the state and community. let me give you an example of why im annoyed. while i was growing up a local lowlife, for now we will call him 'r', and his family whom were just a bad, into drugs, vilance and theft, was in and out of the police station nearly every week for some crime or another. by the time he turned 18 he had over 400 criminal convictions for nearly everything you could think of. his family was even kicked out of their council house because of intimadation of neighbours. yet just found out there back and upto their old tricks. 'r' went to court recently for a burglery charge was given commiunity sevice then was arrested just three days later on scene of another burglery. thank fully this time he was sent to prision for three years, now his brother was arrested for burglery. why dont we scrap the human right act and introduce our own version that would be invalid for persistant offenders that make law abiding communities lifes a misery every day.

and they have to live somewhere..
And what would you have instead?
How does the Human Rights Act make a criminal's life any easier?
Question Author
similar to what we have but a clause which says that if you commit a criminal act you will not be able to use this law for luxeries in prison, i was brought up to believe that prison is a place for punishment for something you do wrong, not a place to be given playstations and dvds. prisioners in previous decades didnt have this kind of presents given to them so just because technology has advanced since why should prisioners get these now.
have to live somewhere, think it over, how many billions of pounds does the law abiding have to pay to keep criminals. fair enough people make mistakes but if you continue constantly to commit crimes why should you have any legal protection for something to entertain yourselves with. we are keeping a huge number of life criminals costing rediculous amounts of money that to be frank this country cannot afford.
Gosh.
You're very cross this morning, Robbo.......
Do you believe that selling all of HMP's Playstations on E-Bay would somehow help mitigate the national debt of the UK ?
Their punishment is, being deprived of their freedom! they are not their for any further punishment unless they commit crimes in prison.
There is nothing in the Human rights act that allows criminals playstations in prison

Some rights are absolute - like the right not to be tortured
Others depend on your status - such as the right to marry and start a familly doesn't apply to prisoners

* the right to life
* freedom from torture and degrading treatment
* freedom from slavery and forced labour
* the right to liberty
* the right to a fair trial
* the right not to be punished for something that wasn't a crime when you did it
* the right to respect for private and family life
* freedom of thought, conscience and religion, and freedom to express your beliefs
* freedom of expression
* freedom of assembly and association
* the right to marry and to start a family
* the right not to be discriminated against in respect of these rights and freedoms
* the right to peaceful enjoyment of your property
* the right to an education
* the right to participate in free elections
* the right not to be subjected to the death penalty

I suggest you find out a bit more about Human rights before advocating messing with them - preferably not from the tabloid press
the government spend more per person on food keeping a criminal in prison that they do keeping a sick person in hospital
That's because most hospital patients don't need expensive security to stop them from checking out.

Well apart from my father obviously!
jake - your father?

What did he do?

My grandfather escaped from a dementia ward at the local psychiatric hospital. It took two burly guys to catch him and take him back.
Murderers, paedos, rapists etc shouldn't have any 'human rights'

They didn't consider the human rights of their victims did they?
