I can't help with the benefits part, but will you be working while you do your NVQ? You have to be undertaking a job of some sort so you can build the portfolio of evidence - even if you only have placements - are you going to be a full-time student then?

Yes I will be on a work placement while I do this full time..
You dont get any help - this is what i was about to post - jobcentre expect you to do a course off your own back AND find work and go to work! You dont get any finacial help. If you go back to college full time as well you will not be able to claim any benifits just a mature student grant which is nothing! I dont work at the moment either and im 24 wanting to do a course in A level Travel & Tourism. Im totally skint but if i want to do it i have to pay. Ive decided now to do one online so i dont have to wait till september plus i can do it all from home. £210 for 2 a levels or £600 for a degree with home uk college online. Jobcentre suck! They tried to bribe me into going to in training when i was at stage 3 of my claim. They told me i would go 4 days a week and they would pay for my to do an NVQ in something i wanted to do. Guess what! Got there and it was "how to write your CV" nothing to do with learning or NVQs so i walked out...because i live in a house with my mum and her partner who earn over 50K i dont get any education grants from the Gov at all. I think they should stop handing out money so easily to people on the dole and use the money to send them back to college instead! Unreal really!

I hope this helps anyway xx
forgot to put you can still claim jobseekers ONLY if your still looking for full time work whilst your at college, and proving you are doing this every week, you will also be asked to quit your course if you do get a 40 hour a week job thats what they told me or you cant claim jobseekers anymore at all
xx
you are not a mature student!
if your over 18 your classed as a mature student
Ilsonchick: "if your (sic) over 18 your (sic) classed as a mature student "

I thought if you're over 21 you're classed as a mature student.

Anyway, fabemmy, this site may give some ideas.

If you know where you want to study look on that college's site for details of possible support
no its 18 as your not supported by your parents or the gov anymore so your on your own
School leavers traditionally go to university at 18 and they ae not called mature students. (and their maintenance and loans is based on the household income of their parent(s) unless they can prove they have left home beforehand)
