I was really disappointed with this book, finding it dreary, plodding, and so totally humourless I couldn't even finish it. It's even been compared to Hardy's brilliant novels - not even close!! Has anyone else really looked forward to reading a so-called 'classic' - only to find it a real let down?

yes-all of hardy, which I find an absolute cure for insomnia. A midsummers night dream is also tosh, apart from the final speech. The life and opinions of tristram shandy should also be on the funeral pyre.
F. Scott Fitzgerald should join the funeral pyre. No life or soul in his writing. And I totally agree about Hardy!
I hated Cider With Rosie too. Dreary, dreary stuff.
