One can't really make sufficient water, so the cost is less of a factor. Consider the cost of not having enough. "Cheap" water accumulates naturally in our reservoirs. Whilst we insist on overpopulating the country so supply is stressed, we need to accept the consequences. Besides after the initial cost has been paid some of the running costs are offset by the "free" salt byproduct.
