do you need to visa to get into amsterdam??? or just a valid passport?

Just a passport I think. It's only close by and in the EU.
not if you have a UK passport.
Amsterdam is a city ( the capital in fact). Do you mean to get into Holland ( or The Netherlands as they now like it to be called).
If you hold an EU passport (including, of course, a British one) you have the right to enter, live in and work in all 27 member states. A valid EU passport is all you need to the Netherlands.

If you hold a passport from outside of the EU, you might need a Schengen visa to enter the Netherlands. (If in doubt. post again, stating your nationality).

If you have a valid UK passport, that's all you need.
Actually The Hague is the capital of Holland or The Netherlands. You do need a passport but not a visa if it is a UK passport.
