Thanks K and Mintyman.
Just what the Doc ordered. Easy clues galore this week. Completed in record time - that calls for a celebratory drink!
Thanks for the links K & M. Agree with Bootlebarth, v straightforward today, though I would much prefer a sparkling wine!!
many thanks for link
Absolutely no need to Grouse about this one. Thanks for the links Kayakamina and Mintyman.
Rang more than a few bells for me, too. 33a is slightly inaccurate - should be minister, not MP.
Well, I've solved it except for 1d. Is it a proper name? Also I've got 37a but don't understand the clue. Andrew
Thank you as always for the link. It was nice to get this out of the way before I go back to EV. ( A dreaded lurgy laid me low practically alll week. )
Andrew c12, for one down think of one of the United States ( capital Carson City )
1d Nevadan dave reversed inside Nan
Thanks to both. A bit thick there. Still don't understand 37a. Andrew

Hi
Presuming 2 DOWN is MAJOR - can someone explain why 'old wig'?
Question Author
Major is an obsolete name for a wig.
Thanks Kayakamina - a very straightforward Spectator this week.
Question Author
It was straightforward even with two editing errors-
22d Minsk is the capital of Belarus not Ukraine

33a Laws was a former coalition cabinet minister and is still an MP.
well spotted K.
as a student in 1981 i once went to a local disco in Minsk. it wasn't much fun. the only amusement we had was having driven from Pinsk. the rhyme kept us going.
I don't think that I would ever have worked the clue to "wavelet". Thank you. Andrew
