How come you can only have one student bank account? What happens if you do open two?  My sister said its alright to as long as you pay in 500 to them.

To qualify for the Studenty benefits (interest free overdraft etc.) then the Bank of Stevie will expect to see some kind of student money go into the account such as a grant or a loan.

Without *any* payment in at all, I will shut your account down at set the hounds upon you.

Then again, you can just claim that you don't qualify for such things and instead receive an allowance from your Mum but I'd want to see that going into the account. You could, of course, set up a standing order from one account to the other and pay yourself an allowance but that'd be slightly unethical.
The Bank I worked for would also keep checking your account for your grant (or whatever) to be paid in.  Until it was, they wouldn't send out your cheque book / debit card / free gift etc.
