For a very quick and easy sauce, mix i part tomato ketchup, same of brown sauce, half measure honey, 2 tbs tom puree, squeeze of lemon juice a good few shakes of worcestershire sauce and a tablespoonful of BBQ spice. mix. great for steaks, chops, chicken, sausages, burgers etc. If you like it spicy add some chili sauce
forgot to add, if you want 'chinese' style ribs, instead of BBQ spice add some 5 spice powder or hoi sin sauce instead of the brown sauce

Just went to pick up a few things between downpours.

Thanks for the recipe ideas everybody, look forward to trying them out.
JD bbq sauce is supposed to be good to

what was the bet???
I use a simple one

2 parts tomato ketchup
1 part golden syrup or honey
1 part soy sauce
1 part brown sugar

You can then add things like ginger, garlic, sweet chilli dipping sauce, lime juice etc etc according to taste.

Hammerman, many thanks. That looks a good one for my level of cooking skills.
Hammerman that's the one I usually do, I sometimes add a few spring onions and garlic or chopped onion, and a few slices of fresh ginger to it, squeeze of lemon juice and a small teaspoon of djion mustard.
I'd still like to know what the bet was...............
Probably not for the sedate British taste buds, but here in the U.S. this is the staple for true Southern Style Barbeque sauce:
1 cup ketchup
1 cup black strap molasses (unfiltered)
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup dark brown sugar
3 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons paprika
1 tablespoon chili powder
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon cayenne
Preparation:
Heat oil in a saucepan. Add garlic and sauté until brown. Add remaining ingredients and reduce heat. Simmer for 15 minutes until thickened. More or less pepper and/or chili powder to taste... should be tangy but not overtly spicy hot...
Question Author
My taste buds are fairly robust, Clanad, so i'll give it a go. Thanks.

Unsure about black strap molasses, though. Is it similar to treacle?
Question Author
Thanks for clearing that up , Society. I don't spend a lot of time in the kitchen as you can tell
After Googling "Treacle" (pardon the ignorance) I would say it's not the same. I see (on another site) that it's available and Tesco's (called Meridian Organic) , Holland and Barrett and a place called Goodness direct on line.... Try it, you might like it. It's a great ingredient in various type of cookies (Ooops... biscuits), especially, Old Fashioned Molasses Cookies (seen here: http://www.bettycrock...&WT.srch=1&esrc=11151 ) Sorry for the long URL...
Question Author
Ok, thanks again Clanad. Will keep an eye out for it, always like to ty out new things.
