I know I shouldn't but can't help using my hair straightners everyday! i have a slight kink in my hair and it drives me mad if my hair isn't straight! If that wasn't bad enough, I have my hair hi-lighted with....peroxide!!!! yes, I heard you all gasp!!! anyway, cos of all that my hair just feels like straw and really needs some moisture back in it to get it looking all nice and shiny again! I've tried loads of supposed 'miracle treatments' that never seem to do anything!! What's the best product you've used on your hair and what would you recommend? Thanx for any help!!!

I once saw a program called "Body matters" with ex goodie, Graham Garden, they did an experiment where a woman could not wash her hair for 6 months all she could do was rinse it in the shower with water, no detergent, conditioner etc. She said after 2 months she had itching scalp, greasy disgusting hair. After 6 months her hair looked like a L'Oreal ad, shinny healthy, she'll never need to wash it again. Essentially the hair is designed to condition itself if left to it's own devices. I suggest a similar approach if you want to restore yours to health, sounds like you've done well if it hasn't fallen out completely!
you could try one of the hot oil or cream treatments. They have worked for me in the past.

Hi Alixw, I'm exactly the same as you, I have wrecked my hair but I find the Redken range of shampoos and conditioners very very good.  they can be a bit expensive but well worth it, I've found an online stockist for you here: -

http://www.hairloss-hair.co.uk/index03.htm

Sorry that link is not working, try this

http://www.hairloss-hair.co.uk and then just click on the Redken link, if you have thin hair like me, I usually use the Headstrong range

I have kinky (!!) hair, use striaghtners & have highlights too so I can understand where you are coming from. Most days I use dove or pantene but 2 - 3 times a week I use the products listed on the link below; in particular Oleo Relax Bain shampoo,  Masq conditioner  & serum. They are expensive but I have never found anything better, you don't need to use that much of them & they last ages. You can get them locally in hairdressers that stock Kerastase or you could try on-line which I have never done yet.

Kerastase

was going to suggest Redken. Years ago i had a bad perm. It looked good at the time but I went on hols a day after getting it, washed my hair and it started to come out at the root. what was left looked like wire wool PANIC. My dear dear Mr Woofgang to me to a local town where we hunted for the poshest hairdresser we could find (and at the time we were not rich) I went in and explained the situation, the guy who owned the place could not have been nicer, gave me a warm pack conditioning treatment, tidied up the ragged bits and sold me super conditioning stuff and a shampoo that came in a bar and smelt divine. Basically I went in looking like and extra from Shaun of the dead and came out looking normal.
I always use coconut oil... I put the bottle in watm water so that it warms the oil, put loads on my hair so that every strand is covered and leave it on for a few hours - even overnight but use an old pillowcase. Rinse it out with shampoo and then my hair is lovely and much less dry!

hectic, that website looks great. they give you 1.50 off too, so the products aren't that expensive, will probably give redken a try!! Thanks for everything everyone!!!
You're welcome Alixw, hope it helps you x
So you don't fancy not washing for 6 months then?!!
lee stafford poker straight products are great available at boots

um, thanks but no thanks loosehead!! i've heard that not washing your hair for ages is really good for it, but i just couldnt bring myself to do it!! i doubt anyone would come near me for 6 months!!!
i love vo5 hot oil treatments but i would advise you to go to your hairdresser for a intense condition!
I used to straigten my hair all the time (i even used to iron it for that extra straight look!) and it got so dry and looked awful. now days i  go for the natural look, wash hair as normal, seperate it into a rough parting while still under the shower, scruch dry with towel, then scrunch in umberto gianni curl friends scrunching jelly, pin down front fringy bits to stop them going haywire and leave to dry naturally. loads of people have commented that it suits me better and now all the split ends have grown out its really glossy and healthy. give it a go, you might like it!
I know we girls all like long hair, but how about having all the dry ends cut off, in a layered or shaggy style? The hair at the roots is usually in better condition, so get those dry ends cut off.

LOL so like me!

Best thing is use Fizz-ease serum before you straighten (when your hair is wet is best), after using straighteners, finish with frizz ease serum finishing spray. It really gives it moisture and feels so sliky. Also wash your hair with the fructis colour-last conditioner (comes in a 300ml pot). The conditioners you get with hair colourants are also usually really very good! I have used a zillion colourants and horrible chemicals on my hair but I promise all these products have made drastic improvements!
