This rather lengthy article on a controversial new book, The History of White People, is rather interesting.
To make such claims as this ("Barack Obama is, to all intents and purposes, white. Not because he had a white mother but because of his educational background, his income, his power, his status") the writer would have to be black or there would be cries of racism.
It was in fact written by a black American historian,Nell Irvin Painter and entitled 'The History of White People'.
Precious Williams who reported on the book, and is also black stated:

A friend sitting opposite me casually remarked that she feels very proud of her family history – and of her race (she is white). There was a stunned silence among those seated around the table. The subject was swiftly changed. Later, one of the other guests (also white) leant over and whispered to me, "I hope you're not offended. She's not usually such a bigot." ///

A person with a chip on their shoulder...
Could such a person be described as someone who almost daily posts questions positing how terrible the blacks and Muslims are?
That being the case, could one not argue that the poster of this (and many, many, many others) has a shoulder-based chip so large, that the only fish that could do it justice is Moby Dick*
(*I know Moby Dick is a whale and therefore a mammal, but you get my point).
The only posters on AB who play the race card, are I'm afraid, white. The evidence is here to peruse.

No Baz, I may look foolish to you and Sodit but I certaintly don't feel foolish and I am still at a loss in understanding why you felt the need to state that you are 'straight' in a thread whereby sexuality preference has no relevance whatsoever.
You must understand in some sense that the comment Precious makes, which Oldgit agree's with is spoken in a context of a discussion raising the issue of race. Precious said at the dinner party that she was reading the 'history of white people' book, the comment was made that the woman was proud of her 'white' race and there was silence. I get that. Another guest then leaned over and apologised to Precious for the woman's comment yeh?

I accept that you in the context of this thread state that you are a 'white english male and...damn proud of it..' That is your view - there is nothing objectionable about it. As Precious and Oldgit state.

This thread has no reference to sexuality - so why not even add, for example...that you are a non-dyslexic, straight, white, english male? Would Sodit pull me up for discrimination of the disabled?
When really the point is that if a person makes a statement about themselves in a CONTEXT that has no relevance to the statement, then I would say that that statement speaks a great deal more about the speaker than it does about the reader or listener.
For example in a discussion about education and finance, why on earth would someone raise their colour or sexual preference?
Another example - A thread about disney films? You reply - I am a white, english, blue-eyed, physically healthy father who loves watching Cinderella.
- The white, english, blue-eyed, physically healthy bit is totally irrelevant. So why in a world already full of discrimination, why throw in more labels?
What more is it that you are trying to prove to yourself and to others? - Why add straight in this context when most people are blind to sexual preference, it has no bearing on the discussion? I, myself don't see the relevance of it at all in this thread.
