I'm going for a job interview tomorrow, but i need a reason for not being able to work on the 24th of this month, it wont matter if i dont get the job but just in case i do get it i need a cast iron excuse that I can give them tomorrow, so that they know in advance. Im in court on the day over a "dispute" with a neighbour but i dont want to be creating a wrong impression during the interview. Anymore ideas?

Just tell them that you have a prior engagement on that day and it's for personal reasons.

new employers have to honour existing appointments so just say you can't work that day and ask whether it be treated as paid or unpaid leave

I'm with bushbaby - prior arrangements and booked leave are usually honoured if you take a new job.
