Hi, I recently tried dying my hair a dark scarlet colour but it didn't quite come out as nice as I wanted. So what I'm now trying to do is gradually fade it so I can take it back to a lighter colour with minimal damage. I've heard there are certain shampoos which could do this, but I don't know what they are so if anyone knows of any that work please let me know :)

Also, any tips for fading/lightening/stripping dye with minimal damage would be greatly appreciated.

I've had my hair stripped twice, but done professionally. They strip the old colour out, then put a base colour back into the hair, and then put in the top colour, so it's not something I'd try at home.
Shampoos dont strip color.

Apply an ash blonde tint to lighten (better done in salon with pro equipment & products). Deep conditioning weekly should suffice, ie (apply conditioner to leave overnight & shower off in morning).
I heard that anti-dandruff shampoo fades hair dye, not sure if it's true though.

I used to use clarifying shampoo, but stopped because it was making my hair dye fade very quickly - you might find it helps enough for you to then dye another colour. I would only get it stripped as a last resort, especially if you plan on re dying it as it will make your hair very dry and weak.
Reds are really difficult to get out, I have been dyeing my own most of the time since I was 16 When ever I have experienced problems it is always going red to light. Longest salon time 7 and a half hours, Clarifying shampoo will fade it a bit as will head and shoulders but at some point you will have to bite the bullet and pay a good colourist . I have also found improving the condition for a few weeks then trying a few brush in copper and gold highlights can soften it enough to live with but it depends on your skin tone
Sara is right, head and shoulders is supposed to be good at fading/washing the colour out.
A hairdresser told me to avoid Head & shoulders in order to make my colour last longer so .......
