Hi all, I have to put in new HDD in my old PC. I have XP disc with it that came with service pack 1not 1A. I have seen that updates can now only be had for later versions of XP. My question is can I copy service packs from my PC onto a cd so that when I put new HDD in with XP service pack 1 on I can then use the service packs from the cd to update it. I don't really want to transfer all the junk from my old HDD onto the new one. I have all the discs for the things I want to put on to new drive. Anyone have any ideas. Thanks. Shed.

no ! its will only overwrite the files . and u will also have problems with .reg & .dll files. i suggest u to take fresh edition of xp2 . or windos 7
Just run the windows update after you install it, it will install all the stuff it needs such as the service packs.

Or you can download the install file for XP service pack3 here.

download nLite, you can copy your windows XP cd to your harddrive, apply any patches/servicepacks you want to it, then burn another CD (you need a blank disc). ANd then you are all done. plus lots of other options.

takes a while to work out how to do it but works really really well. Media URL: http://www.nliteos.com/index.html

Hi, I thought that to put SP3 on you had to have SP1A and I only have SP1 on the cd that came with PC. Don't really want to buy new operating system yet as I like this one. Thanks for replies. Shed.
