Welcome Roslyn251254 to the EV Madhouse. I agree with Novalis, this wasn't as challenging as some EVs', but a good one to start with.

Devadolly, on a thursday morning, about 08.00 to 09.00 ish, Kayakamina and/or Mintyman post a link in Answerbank, in Crosswords, to Speccie. K posts a link to the whole of Spectator, mintymman a link to a pdf of the Speccie. If you follow K's link, go to the right page, he normally will indicate which, click on the printer icon at the bottom of the window, then click "print custom area", put the cursor just above the left hand corner of the Xword, left click and hold, move cursor to the right, a red line appears, then move cursor down, you will create a red rectangular outline, surround Speccie with this, release "left click" a print screen will appear, straightforward then.
I agr with you a , not chaenging this wk, but as we were visiting Oxford this wkend, it was gd not to have to resort to the BRB!
This would not be a gd wk to be a bper. And what with the tornadoes, not a gd time to be in Miiii. We, I'm o, have a coi mting sn.

[good, week, bookkeeper, good, Mississippi, well, off, committee, meeting, soon. Thank you, thank you, I' be here a wk.]
Heo a
Fuy wk, finished last wks EV this mornig then raled through yesterdays. Must admit I'm a bit disaointed but its gd to encourage new solvers.
Am even busier than usual, hence the lack of posting. Spent a day in London on Saturday - left home 4.30am and arrived back 3.30am. Went to the Indigo2 for a recording of "She's Amazing" for Sky, meal in Chinatown and then to the Palladium for Sister Act, which was brilliant! Not the easiest of day's to travel across the Metropolis due to tube closures, but made for an interesting time! Now catching up on sleep!
There is a choice of letters for the square at the top-right of the grid-centre.
Yes, for some reason that was discussed on the Listener thread his week:

We may have bn having t much fun with double leers to notice.
by "his week" I of course mean "this wk".
Agree with MatydaLover. I went with the one given as first choice in my most up-to-date Chambers. That, however, is the reverse of what is in an older edition.
I used y not i, no gd reason why. Hello Roslyn, hope you enjoy the EVs!
Belated thank you for the info re: Speccie Doc. Will see if I can manage it on Thursday - if I remember!
Devadolly,I'm sure you will be sufficiently motivated to tackle Speccie that you will have no problem printing off from either K's posting or mintyman's posting.

In respect of the 2 posssible entries into the unchecked 20d light, Phil McNeill, the Telegraph Crossword, or in the case of this weeks EV, Crassword Editor, might ask Offa to adjudicate!
Thanks Doc. Don't see the problem with 20d, both spellings are acceptable as both are in common use. Don't the Xword ed's accept either spelling when there is a conflict, especially as it is in an unchecked light?
DD, Printing off the Speccie on Thursday will be a really good idea, as it will give you something interesting to do when there any dull moments during the long hours of election TV on Thurs. night/ Fri. morning. Sorry, if, not when!
Re. 20d. Up here (Fife), the 'Y' speing is the norm and that is what I put. I didn't refer to the red brick in regard to this clue until now and my version prefers the 'I' to the 'Y'. T late to change it now.

I agree with others that this was one of the easiest for some time and I raled through it at record speed, although I didn't lk at it until Monday.
