So carlton IS a gorilla. And so is Hawkwalk.(but I wont say it to your face!)
so do you know what it is? Is it big enough for me to swing on and beat my chest?
Thanks Hawkwalk, I felt like hanging from a branch after reading what I typed.

Not on my bloomin Lilac tree you dont!
Are sure it`s a Lilac then? If it is I hope it`s not too near your house as the roots can cause damage to the house footings. Thats another thing to worry about.

Well now you come to mention it,we have another tree(dont worry I dont know what it is but I hate it and its little catkins too)and the patio stones cracked this year cos the roots are getting a bit much
.Deffo Lilac tree.100%.the smaller one that is.
Swing from the other one by all means, with any luck you will bring it down.
If it is flowering this early it might be one of the smaller Korean lilacs they have panicles that are about fist sized wouldn't be so worried about the house if it is they are don't have such invasive root runs
