Is it really bad for you to pick your nose and eat it? Ive heard that it helps to build up an immunity against germs and can actually be a good thing, though not very socially acceptable.

Your nose hairs act as a filter to stop the unpleasant stuff getting into your body, so if you then pick and eat it, the nasties are still getting in your body. So I would say no it's not a good thing, there are other ways to build up an immunity against germs. Beside which it is just disgusting.

Yes, apparently there was a study recently which found that people who pick their nose and eat it suffer less from colds, flu, etc.  I'm sure I read it on the BBC site but now cannot find the link.

if you have a cold, the excess mucus is basically mostly made up of dead cold virus - eating it could act in a way like a deactivated vaccine.  But i'm not sure what snot is made up of when you don't have a cold.  I'm sure it can't harm you, the stomach is a very good nasty-killer with all that acid.  Plus almost all of us do it some time... and we're all fine.

If you want to cure yourself go into London for a day wandering around sightseeing, the colour of the stuff you dig out of your nose afterwards will put you off ever putting it in your mouth again...

i feel a bit sick now.
Put it this way - if you sniff in very hard then swallow you are doing the same thing, so no, of course it doesn't hurt you.
This horrible habit is one that my other half does to my disgust. I can't see that it has built up his immune system because he always catches everything going.

It's better than leaving 'them' on the side of the car seat.

oh, that's just gross!!
