Our cat is about 3-4 years old (She was a stray) we have had her for 2 years.

The last month every evening from about 6pm she is let out the back door and from 6 to 11pm she cries at the back door to come in, we let her in, she then walks down the hall to the front door and cries to be let out, she then goes round to the back door and it starts all over again!

She does have a cat flap but we always close it in the evenings as she would often bring us a live pressie in...we have always done this for the last 18 months, so she is used to meowing to be let in in the evening.

I always make sure she is in at night, she comes in meows a bit and then goes to her bed to sleep, until the next evening when it starts all over again.

It is driving me mad, up and down all evening - Any ideas why she is doing this? She has been speyed so its not because she is in season.
Thanks

Cos she's a cat and that's what they do! She's got you well trained and she's making the most of it - a bit like if you pick a baby up every time it cries, it soon learns to cry when it wants picked up. Your wee puss has realised you'll do her bidding and she is making you do all the running. Try ignoring her for a bit and see if that works.
My cat is the same but he does it with the living room door. He cries to come in, walks round the room and then cries to go out again. Repeat process....

In the last 20 mins I have let her in and out 3 times, I have just brought her for bed and she is meowing at the front door to go out - no way!

We have tried ignoring her, so she then comes from round the back to the front door and meows under the front room window whilst we are watching tv, so we let her in and off she goes to the back door!
i agree with karen i always worked shifts and my 3 knew when i came off the night shift they could have a couple of hours outside and then fresh food. same when i came home after a late shift they would go out and i had to stay up and wait for them to come in . sometimes if the weather was nice i would have to take a torch at 2-30am round the back of the house or on the field as soon as they saw the torch light they would come running. fresh food dad is home.

Let her meow for a long time this evening well almost an hour, and we all felt really guilty so let her in the front door and she promptly padded through the hall to the back door and cried to be let out! only 5 mins later she did the same thing again.

She is in for the night now all tucked up in her bed!

Going to try to leave the cat flap open during the evning tomorrow night and see what happens!
