Hi as far as i am aware they don't have too the car can be sold as seen but if it advertised to do a job ( get you from A to B) and doesn't i think it falls under the trade discription act hope this helps

Does rather depend. Generally yes they do have to provide a warranty, unless you purchased it on the understanding that it was 'sold as seen' or a 'part exchange to clear'. Even then it should stillhave a 12 month guarantee.

Whatr car is it, how much did you pay, and what is the warranty isssue? With these details it will be possible to give better advice.

Some give you a 2 weeks warantee.. some 3 months, covering engine, clutch, back axle (or something similar).

It should be fit for the purpose it was intended for... i.e it should go forwards and backwards, start and stop.
Other than being fit for the purpose - there is no legal requirement to provide a warranty. Most dealers will provide a warranty of about 3 months and try to sell you an extended one. The level of the warranty varies from dealership to dealership - both in what is covered and who can do the repairs. I was in the motor trade for 17 years and believe that if you want a decent warranty - go to a proper respected main dealer that is part of a group - you will pay more but the extra safety is part of what you are paying for. (I am no longer in the motor trade so have no ulterior motive). If you buy cheap - you get cheap.
