Mostly Afghans and Iraqi people determined to get in here, while I tend to feel sorry for their desperation, what happens? they deliberately carry no papers or ID so they are either sent back to Calais to try again or told to report to the authorities then let go in this country!!!!
and of cause they don't report to anyone, a lot have even been given repatriation fees of £500 and a free flight home, only to come back to Benefit Britain again
unbloodybelievable !!!!!

Bobbisox, i live in a village, albeit a very nice village that happens to be near Luton, and that also makes my blood boil, that Margaret bloody moran has been paid sick pay ever since the expenses scandal, we are paying for that and most people don't earn anything like those greedy mp's

this apparently has been the most corrupt Government ever tinkie
tinkie - do you live in Houghton Regis ?
Question Author
I had a supervisor from there...surname of Denton...and thats all I can say..lol
We moved to Houghton Regis when I was 6 from the East End of London. My Dad got a job at Vauxhalls and at weekends he was a coalman. We had a brand new house in the first road of the estate called Angel Way.
Yes,bobbisox I can well believe that, she was also on channel 4's documentary looking awfully well, selling herself as a lobbyist, you and I wouldn't get away with that, what do ordinary people like us do?

We don't have so much of a problem directly in the Kent ports these days since so much has been introduced both the French and English ends in terms of heat-seeking scans in the lorries and much increased border patrol activity. It was bad about seven years ago, the place was teeming with people, they weren't allowed to work while their cases were being assessed so they were dossing around the town and there was a lot of bad feeling. I'm with Bobbi's earlier comment on this that genuine asylum seekers in fear of their lives should be allowed asylum across the nearest friendly border, but we are led to believe that a lot of people waiting in Calais at the moment are economic migrants which is not at all the same thing. When interviewed they say they are seeking work, not running for their lives.
The other point to remember is we are not the only country with this problem. The Canary Islands regularly have boatloads of people landing (or worse, not landing because they drown) trying to get away from North African countries. The economic migrant problem is massive. However, in the Canaries, they give them a meal and a medical check then put them on the first plane back (if they catch 'em).
If was interesting that immigration came in as the big No 1 on the Ed's recent election survey.
Thanks Eddie, your post crossed with mine and I endorse what you say. It is not only our problem here in the UK.
Den 53, no I live in Toddington, but I do use Houghton Regis library and I did work at Lloyds bank, Kimpton Road for many years. I am almost ashamed to say it, but I am a Lutonian by birth.

and Eddie I see your point as well, my friends mum is German and she says the Turkish people are treat with utter distaste there, even from her, I just don't get the asylum bit and the country of safety?
Just because other countrys have a similer problem with immigrants dosent mean we have to accept them, feed them, house them, free NHS, schooling etc etc.
