I get this too!

It's so painfull isn't it?!

I thought maybe it could be heart burn, but is not necessarily after eating. Some times I can't even move when it comes on!! Would be interested in learning more aswell

I've also had this in the past keggie & it too was very painful on breathing, coughing or sneezing.

The doc told me it was a strained muscle, even though I didn't remember straining one.

Hope you feel better soon.

yep guys, so glad i aint alone in this one. As long as it aint life threatening i guess i can live with it.

like with all doctors, unless somthing like this happens to you whilst in the consultantion, they have no idea what it is!

Me too!  It happens every so often, but it's very infrequent and irregular.

I've got a friend who's a doctor, and like smudge's doc, he also reckons that many pains in the chest are the result of a strained or pulled muscle, and not a problem with the heart itself.

I would just keep an eye on it and seek professional advise if you believe it is happening more often or is more painful than usual.

If your pain is strikingly left-sided I think you'll find that heart pain is not - if that's any reassurance.

Just read your other post about your hip hurting.  It might be a good idea to see an osteopath to see if your back needs sorting out.  The sort of pains you are getting (i.e. chest, hips and perhaps more) can all generate from posture and back problems.  It could even be the way you are sitting.

From one who knows!

Best wishes.

I've had this a few times and the last time it happened I went to Casualty as I was working in a hospital at the time.  The doctor told me it was inflammation of the cartilage between my ribs and to take anti-inflammatories for a few days.  They couldn't say how it happens but it is quite common and nothing to worry about apparently (try telling that to someone who can't breath 'cos it hurts too much!).

Take care.

Talking from experience let me asure you, pain from the heart is in the MIDDLE of the chest not the left as some think, (yes left arm tho) :-)

thank you for your help.

yep my posture is bad, ive started to do something about it and make a concious effort to walk more upright, although i aught to address the way i sit too

A few years ago I had a real stabbing pain in the left side of my chest, it felt like there was a knife there and I couldn't move an inch as it made it even worse. Happened a few times. Went to the Docs who said it was neuralga (is that spelt right?!). Not had it for years, I suppose it went of its own accord.
