I live in SE London .. there is a stork with has taken up residence in our local park.

It's amazing!!!!...........but is this strange?

I've never seen a stork in the wil before, and never knew they nested in England ..... especially SE London!!!

There are usually one or two storks seen in the UK but I cant find any records of any breeding here. As with a lot of bird species you get a few 'accidentals' - ones that turn up where they are not supposed to- for instance there is a pair of bee-eaters nesting in Herefordshire at the mo.

Storks tend to migrate from africa to spend the summer in Central and Eastern Europe and like to build huge nests on tall buildings. If its in a park it will be feeding- they tend to feed by water. And lucky you for spotting it!!

Thanks for the speedy answer burnhal.

Very lucky by me indeed.  The park is actually next to a huge estate with has extremley tall buildings .. and the park has a lake, (with many varieties of duck) ... it's becoming a little oasis in the urban jungle.

The Stork has been there for weeks now ... and it's huge!!!  Blooming beautiful to look at though .. my little son was facinated by it.

I was in Regent's park a few months ago, and there were quite a few huge birds in nests up in the trees along the water, and while my boyfriend and I were wondering aloud what they were, a man came over and told us they were storks. I never questioned whether he was right, but now you've made me wonder...
