I am getting a poor return with my current provider but would like to keep just a nominal amount with them. Is this possible? Many thanks.

Ask the existing provider, but I don't see why not. They may prefer to retain some of your business than lose the lot.
Make it clear that you are going to transfer some of the money anyway (you have a right to do this) - and that you will transfer all of it unless they can permit a smaller retention.
Why do you want to keep some money with them anyway if you're getting a poor return?
Maybe Boto wants to keep some money in there in case there's a future windfall due to demutualisation
Or she may at some future point want to give them more business if they start paying a better rate and not want to have to go through the whole Money Laundering paperwork palava again.
