My daughter has just bought her first car, and we have noticed when she turns the engine off the fan carries on running for a few minutes - is this normal in a 9 year old car?

Its usual Louise, do not woory about it, a bit of advise, get the car fully serviced with a Cam belt change, If that has been done you should have good service from the car.
