Lard, you might have had your own cow, or indeed a goat - I had goat's milk when I was little. Now I think of it, that could explain a lot....
Frozen food.....it was planned but they had no microwaves to defrost it.
Therefore it was "put on ice" for a while.

Well I meant bananas, grapes, peaches, nectarines, oranges etc not the really obscure ones that the average house does not have even today.

We did have grapes. peaches, bananas, nectarines, oranges, lemons, melons in 1910.
We had most of them in Roman Britain.
