When I turned my PC on last night, I got a large message window giving me some schpeel about "Browser Choice". It looked pretty "official", but I had never seen it before and so was very wary of it.

Although I closed the window in question down without accepting any of the suggested "actions", I now have a shortcut on my desktop entitled "Browser Choice". When I check the "Properties" of said shortcut, it tells me that it has downloaded something to/as "C:\Windows\system32\browserchoice.exe\launch
".

Is this a scam/worm/trojan/virus?

No it should not a scam/worm/trojan/virus - from 1st March Windows has had to give the user the choice of which browser to use http://news.bbc.co.uk...echnology/8524019.stm (that page is from February but there's plenty to choose from if you search for e.g. "browser ballot").

But there is always the possibility that someone might have tried to take advantage of the situation so the maybe you should do a scan to be absolutely sure.
Received this via my Microsoft Windows updates and have it on my Desktop. If you received it via Microsoft then it is OK.

PHEW! Thanks guys.
It is genuine.

You will probably keep getting this window every time you boot up.

If you do then select "install" for the browser you usually use, and it will say something like "This is already your default browser".

Then you never see the window again.
