If you have bt broadband and you want to get rid of your phone to cut down on the bill, do you just rent the line from bt for broadband or is there such a thing as a wireless system and you can cut bt altogether?? Sorry, not too clued up on technology. Can you recommend anything??

Hi,
the only way to get internet without involving BT or their landlines is Virgin Broadband. Sky and all the other isps need a telephone line to connect to the telephone exchange and the internet. Virgin uses it's own cable system and is separate from BT.

When people mention wireless internet it usually refers to the connection between your pc and the router., not from your router to the isp.
3 offer a great new idea, just connect a small USB device to your PC or laptop then load up software on CD and as long as you are in their signal area away you go! Signal strengh for your area can be checked on their web site.
My girlfriend tried this the other week as she did not want to pay BT for a land line especially at 150!!!

We go the 3 package, (10 per/month) on contract installation was so easy and away it went...works a dream.
Good luck!
