EVery week get into the habit of putting 2 Steradent tablets in a 3/4 filled kettle of hot water leave it for an hour, Rinse, and you wont have to worry about descaling again.

brilliant, thanks for that.
I just bought a new kettle which said to boil it up 3 times with the juice of a lemon in it.I have yet to try this but will, after all its cheap and easy and smells better than vinegar!
try using something high acidic like leaving vinegar in there overnight. high acidic liquids will break down the build up in your kettle id av thought...
Just buy a new one dahling!
Try ScaleAway.
I used Oust descaler on my shower head last week. It said to leave for 10 minutes. I was amazed when the awfully badly scaling just disappeared leaving it like new!
By the time you've faffed about with lemons and vinegar you may as well get Oust .They do one for plastic and stainless steel kettles .Ten minutes ,couple of rinses and you can make another cuppa :) We have water that is so hard , you can crack your teeth on it. I have to descale the kettle a couple of times a week. Oust shifts it pronto.
I use Citric acid (buy it in homebrew shops or Wilkinsons). Works fast, no smell - use a teaspoon full in half a kettle, boil, leave 10 mins, rinse.
We filter our water with a Brita water filter jug. For the first couple of weeks after changing the filter, the kettle doesn't fur up at all, and even seems to descale. I guess the water is so pure that the limescale dissolves into it.

Tea doesn't get scummy at all either.

The filter begins to become exhausted, and some scaling occurs but after about a month it is time to change the filter cartridge again.
