I have a USB turntable for transferring my vinyls to MP3s, using Audacity.

The problem I am having is I can't hear sound while recording the tracks.

I have gone into Control Panel / Sounds and Audio Devices and un-ticked Mute.

I have also gone into Edit / Preferences /Software Playthrough and ticked (Play new track while recording it) in Audacity and set both Play Back & Record at Sigma Tel Audio, also selected Stereo.

Can anyone please tell me were I am going wrong? Please help if you can, I would love to hear music come out of my speakers.

If the turntable is connected via USB, the record device needs to be set to USB, not Sigmatel audio (that's your soundcard, so it'll be trying to record from the mic/line in.
As Vagarbt suggests playback shoud be set to you normal sound card
Sorry Vagrant, just got back from the pub!

Thanks for your answers, I have gone into control panel under Sounds and Audio Devices, but it gives me no alternative to Sigma Tel Audio.

In Edit / Preferences in Audacity the other option it gives is Playback/ Microsoft Sound Mapper (output) and Recording Microsoft Sound Mapper (input).

But the instructions says on Windows machines do not select "Micro Soft Sound Mapper" for some reason.

Sorry to be a bother, but can you help me further please?

I've cracked it, thanks all the same.

One needs to open Audacity first before connecting the USG plug to computer, and the sound only comes on when one presses record.
Glad you've got it sorted.
