More than 60 economists sign two open letters backing the chancellor's decision to delay spending cuts until 2011.

Yet, if you listen to the Conservatives and their supporters, we are in deep trouble.

Gordon Brown says...

// (Conservatives) use "legitimate concerns about deficits to scare people into accepting a bleak and austere" future. //

Jake in the short term you have a point as a general principle we must reverse the huge public sector increase that has occurred in the Noo Labour tenure.
Like 800 000 of them majority of which are usless to the econmomy only any good for furthering the nanny sate.

All the pinko aruments on here are unbelievable. Talk about rose tinted specticles
That Geezer is the main difference between the two parties

Both agree the defecit needs reducing

The Tories say do it now - Labour in 2011

If you want to play silly finger pointing games the main reason for the massive debt is of course bailing out certain banks - You and I know that The tories would have done the same

Don't even try the "he sold all the Gold" that cost every tax payer £7 per head

But put that to one side

Who has the best policy now?

The party that want to make the cuts in 9-10 months after the economy recovers?

Or the party that will (as we've all agreed) put us back into recession

A vote for Cameron s a vote for recession

This is a worldwide problem, not isolated to Britain. It would have happened to us no matter who was in power. The choice is who is best to lead us out of the mess.

Talk of Britain sinking to the level of Greece, and were are bankrupt and we will lose our credit rating and broken Britain are all examples of scaremongering, and it seems to be working on the more gullible.
Jake we both know that the the tories think it will help to get them elected. They need to set themselves apart. In reality no party can commit to policies in advance nor should they. Manifesto needs to be only a general statement of intent.

Ok on the spot time jake, do you accept the general point that the Labout has created hundreds of thousands of non jobs during their tenure?
Gromit, it is not scarmongering. It works on percentages and perception, as I am sure you really know.

As for who is in power, no now it does not matter you are right there, however due to Nu labour squandering we are not in a good position are we ?
It is obvious cuts need to be made, It depends on what? Some industries are labour intensive so cutting back in this area will cause more depression.

But there are other areas where it is not dependent on labour. If you cut the Trident hardly any British personnel are affected. The new aircraft carriers are to be subcontracted to France so we could abandon these.

Our armed forces are more concerned about the state of other nations. Bring them back and defend the Falklands etc.

Our fields are left unused with farmers receiving the set aside allowance. Get unemployed people working in the fields and be less reliant on foreign produce.
Just like their local councils, what Labour is notorious for, and that is wasting vast sums of money, on mad cap schemes.

Tidy up this waste and then we can look at the other problems.
