I bought a 9ct gold locket as a gift. When it arrived it looked cheap and trashy.

Its been engraved so I can't return it. What would I need to pay for a decent one?
The one I bought cost £100.

spending £100 online is risky. why don't you go to a jewellers?

it's really going to depend on what you want, the size, weight, etc...

Sara, I wish now that I had gone to a jewellers. I was imagining something like a locket my sister had years ago. I remember it was heavier and bigger. I suppose you get what you pay for.
While I could kid myself that it's the thought that counts I wouldn't be happy giving the one I have now as a gift.
shame.. I bought a bracelet online once and it was horrible. I gave it to my daughter's friend who was here at the time. even my daughter didn't want it. lesson learned..

have you personalised it? can you give it to someone else?
Question Author
Yes it's engraved. I'll probably give it to Oxfam. The words 'pig in a poke' come to mind.
if you won't wear it yourself, can you not try one of those "we buy your gold" companies?

if I were you I'd at least tell the company you bought it from that it looks and feels like rubbish. see what they say..

I've a feeling the we buy ur gold people wouldn't give much for it. I'll just accept it as an expensive lesson and go to a shop where I can see what I'm buying.
sandy i really agree with sara, that you should at least confront the company with your complaint. you never know, there could have been an error. it will only cost you a phone call, but you have nothing to lose. perhaps you could mention the trade description act or something. dont give up quite so easily!
you can sometimes get engravings removed.
