Hi. AB. My brothers laptop powered off abnormally after the battery ran down. Now the laptop will only start in safe mode. I did check that Boot option /Safeboot was unticked, tried startup repair, tried system restore, tried selecting normal startup from "F8" boot menu. Same result, laptop starts in safe mode.

Is there anyway we can force a normal startup ignoring any errors that might be causing this problem? It's not clear what errors the system has found. Thanks a lot.

Nope ... I think you may get there with a Windows disc as a start-up disc. Startup repair is hopeless. Just had the same on a Dell Inspiron. Only way I got out of it. After that, cleaned up everything, and all has been well.
I had a problem like yours a while back, and I did system restore but there was some CD that I had inserted and it had wrecked my computer. I just needed to get rid of the files I downloaded off that, as system restore didn't delete them.
It might not be the same problem but try deleting recently downloaded stuff in safe mode.
