Hi All

My little girl is getting spayed on Friday at 5 years old. I would have liked to do it sooner but could never afford it.

I am awfully worried about it due to her age - is she old for a Staff?
Lily is a small staff having been the runt of the littler and i'm concerned about how she will be later?
Some people have told me that it can change the animals behaviour and they can become aggressive. Lily is a very quiet dog and doesn't even play with her toys now.

How long will the process take and will she bounce back quickly?

Thanks

I have never had a lady dog but de-nutting boy dogs makes them calmer and easier to live with.

I am sure that she will be fine - I wouldn't have thought that it would change her personality much.

I got my last boy dog done at 5 years at there was no problems - his personality improved a bit.

Good luck.
We've got 3 Staffies, 2 of them ***, and yes, Lily'll be fine. She's not even into middle age yet, and it'll stop dogs coming after her when she's in season. You'll be amazed at how quickly she recovers, and she should stay a lovely, placid dog. All ours are as daft as brushes, and you'll love it when Lily gets a bit older. She'll start "moaning" at you - which is like getting very vocal when you don't pay her attention!!!!
It will be fine, and will also stop the chances of her getting pyometra or mammary tumours. Try not to let her jump up on furniture etc till the stiches are out, but other than that she should be back to normal in a few days. Defintiely not too old, I have had dogs spayed at 9 or 10 with no problems.
