This has probably been asked a lot but I couldn't find any answers...we have to give our cat a tablet every day for 7 days...he is usually very well behaved until it comes to claw clipping, ear cleaning, medicine etc when a beast emerges. It takes 2 of us to try and hold him and put the tablet in his mouth but he usually ends up spitting it out. We tried hiding it in his favourite white fish, but he eats everything except the tablet. Is there an easy way to do it or is it just a case of putting on the protective clothing and going for it. Thanks on advance

Had the same prob with my one (sadly gone) what I did was I crushed the tablet to fine powder using the butt-end of a knife in a shot glass, then thoroughly mixed it into a small amount of her favourite food, topping it up with her normal food after she'd finished it.
It's only an itsy bitsy pussy cat.

Did you see the article in the Daily Mail TV magazine on Saturday about the guy who nearly died after his cat bit him?

Remember to count your fingers afterwards.

We have to give our cat a pill every day.
We crush it between two teaspoons then mix it in with some yogurt.
He absolutely loves yogurt, so now he waits patiently by the fridge every morning for his medication and licks it from the spoon.
I think the trick is to find a thick-ish liquid that your cat likes to hide the crushed up pills in. Trying to hide them in solid food , even wet solid food doesn't work.
We also once got some liquid cat medicine from the vet with a tiny syringe which worked quite well too, so maybe you could ask the vet if the medicine you have to give can be in liquid form.
It's so much easier to give medicine to a dog. See here:

My vet has told me that my cat may need to use an inhaler for his asthma (the current monthly jags are simple but with long-term ramifications).

The vet (who looked about 12) said that the cats grow to look forward to using their inhaler each morning. Frankie is a lovely natured little cat - but I can see trouble ahead.

ladyalex - your link made me smile. So true!
Your vet is taking the p1ss & running up un-necessary bills. Clip cats claws - never! Let it outside or get them posts covered with rope. Wash it's ears - cats do that naturally. Stop forcing pills down its throat - RSPCA alert!

I had this problem with my cat, and the answer was staring me straight in the face.. I got my wife to do it...
hold it by the scruff of the neck while resting it on your knee. force mouth open , drop tablet in , tilt the cats head back further and give its throat a tickle. job done and she could be nasty but she had to swallow.

DrFilth - she is gorgeous and so sweet and innocent looking. My lady cat is sweet and innocent 'looking' too...... until she attacks.

Sammmo - you coward! :-)
Wrap her tightly in a towel put the tablet as far back on her tongue as possible then hold her mouth sclosed and gently stroke her neck until she swallows it. That is how we did it for our dog who was horrendous at taking tablets
