Oh.. Thanx.

What happened to the first answer?. I didn't get time to read it.
The program you refer to is launched whenever you click on a link to a pdf file, to enable you to view it in your browser's window. (It's Acrobat Reader). It has a nasty habit of staying open after you've finished using it, eating into your PC's resources. (With my old computer, running Windows ME, I had to remember to hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete and then end the application after I'd finished viewing a pdf. Up until now, I've not experienced the same problem with Windows XP).

The way to solve the problem is to stop Acrobat Reader from opening within a browser window. (You'll still be able to view pdf files; they'll just open within a separate window). Instructions here:

Ah.. Thanks to you. I've been using the Taskmaster to close it (I know it's not good but I'd no other way)
