Hi I need help please.
I am trying to install Sims Castaways on my laptop running Vista. It previously installed and ran fine on a desktop running XP.
When i insert the disk I get the message saying that something is trying to install and do I want to continue. I say yes. Then nothing happens.
I have the "E" drive as a shortcut on my desktop. If I right-click and select install or run programme it attempts to do something then I get a message saying "cannot find file C:\users\julia\desktop\autorungui.dll (julia being my name). I dont know what this file is or where to find it.
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance

Doubele click on the e drive icon (I assume that's your CD drive) and then look for a program called setup and right click on it and select "run as administrator"

Thanks Chuck, but i'm not sure what you mean. Double click from Where? When I double clck it tries to run it/install - it doesn't give a list of files. Can you talk me through it?

Sorry, didn't realise program already installed. This message is when I try to RUN the game.
Thanks
already installed and it carnt find the run.dll .

sounds like it has not installed correctly . try reinstalling it
you could also fdo a check to see if there any updates for it to run on vista
" apposed to xp " as differnt operating systems may require different drivers

Thanks SC. i know i'm sounding really dim here but how do i search for updates?
Check that the path actually exists. i.e. ensure that your C drive has a folder called 'users' on it, that there's a folder called 'julia' within it, and a folder called 'desktop' within that. (They'll probably be there. If not simply create those folders).

Then download the missing file from here
http://www.dll-files....iles.shtml?autorungui
putting it into the 'desktop' folder.

(NB: The file you download is 'zipped'. Double click on it to extract the dll file to the required folder).

I'm not guaranteeing that my suggested solution will work but I've solved plenty of dll problems by simply downloading the missing file and putting it where the software expects to find it. Good luck!

Thanks Chris. i've tried that but it didn't work. Don't know if I did something wrong though.
Do you know how to find the installation directory? You should be able to find the .exe file that starts the game there, and if that works you can create a shortcut to it.

it would appear simms on vista has some issue's this may help cure it
Goto MY COMPUTER
C DRIVE
PROGRAM FILES
It should be in there somewhere. Electronic Arts folder? Or SIMS?
When you find which it is (Sorry, I dont have the game so unsure) find the .exe. file, (eg - 'SIMS.EXE') RIGHT CLICK and CREATE A SHORTCUT
Copy the shortcut to your desktop and click that to play

incase you dont know where to find the exe program

SC, thank you very much. I have done that and its working fine now.
I don't suppose you can tell me why?
to be honest i cannot . i did a search regarding this issue and found the issue ,
so i forwarded to yourself via copy and paiste to share what i found.

i dont normaly follow such things unless i test and find they work myself
however as i dont have the program and it had been reported as working where i found it by another user and knew it would have no adverse effects so decided to share and hoped it would for you.

from the info given it would seem the original install didnt direct teh shortcut to the actualy program " for some strange reason". Doing this obviously creates a new shortcut which is directed to the right " computer " address.

happy it helped : )
