Channel4 aspect ratio

Sorry if this is in the wrong category. Can anyone explain why my tv in auto display mode has recently reverted to 4:3 ratio when receiving channel4? I can manually select any widescreen format ok. Thanks in Advance.

You should set your TV to 'original' Screen size. Older programmes will be in 4:3 (as they were meant to be viewed), and newer ones in 16:9.

Unfortunately my tv only has Auto, which, according to the manual sets the aspect ratio to whatever the transmitting station tells it to, or a full manual selection of a load of different widescreen formats. Just turned over to Countdown and Deal or No Deal (I know, Sad!), so I expect these to be in widescreen format. It always used to display ok, until about the time of the digital fiddling before Christmas. But I'm receiving analogue tv in this case. Very odd.
