Hydrocortisone Cr 1% OR Synalar 1% both can be obtained from the chemist without prescription. If you scratch it, infection may ensue and you would need an antibiotic steroid cream.

Google Besnie'rs Prurigo

thank you Squad, didnt know if this was your field or not, good to hear from you, will definately try out sugestions. happy new year.
dinky Happy New Year to you as well.
The only thing that helps mine is Betnovate ain 4 diluation. Make sure you keep your skin clean and moisturise (I like Dove intensive lotion for extra dry skin) and then add a tiny bit of Betnovate to the eczema bits. You could also be getting too hot in bed, hence the scratching. Make sure your bedclothes are 100% cotton and clean, and make sure you have a ventialted room which isn't getting too hot at night. You could also make sure your nails are well trimmed, so you do yourself minimal damage if you do scratch in your sleep.
I find the cold weather makes my skin much worse, so make sure you wear layers if you go out!
1 in 4 dilution!
dinky....good advice by Scarlett.
Am no medic and know some people are allergic to it, but I find Cyclax aloe vera revitalising cream (99p from chemist) is very cool and soothing. Also good for bruises and sunburn.
I have psoriasis and one area is on my chest; this was very itchy - I used to scratch it whilst asleep and then wake up the next morning lying in a snowdrift of skin flakes.

If you are male (sorry, can't tell from the username) I found that it was hairs that were responsible for 99%+ of the itchiness and so, for the last couple of years, I have shaved my chest. Not only have I not suffered from the itchiness since but I reckon it helped with making sure that all the steroid cream got onto the surface of the skin instead of just matting up the hairs (and thus improved the rash).
Socks on hands at night help to minimise nail scratch. We used to put socks on son's hands and then bandage up his arms so he couldn't pull them off. It was the only way to stop him tearing himself to pieces at night.
