EIRIE is an eagles nest - usually very high up on rock faces - remove an I to get EIRE which is one of the Great Lakes

a porter is used by railway companies to carry baggage - not sure why the ex is precedding it though.

If you drop the i from eyrie you get Eyre . Lake Eyre is the lowest point in Australia . The clue tells you " down under " . So not in Canada
