Does anybody have any information on canine calories. My dog who is on a very strick diet goes on a human treadmill most days in the winter months. Vet controlled plan. I wanted to convert human cals. to canine Cals. Today he used 110 calories in human terms. Any ideas? TIA

110 calories?

What did you feed him specifically?
How old is he and how much does he weigh?
Are you serious...............when I switch my treadmill on the dog heads out of the door.
Nutritionists employ a number of methods and formulas to determine the average total caloric intake for dogs based upon the dog’s ideal body weight. Any estimate of “how much” to feed is inherently subjective and lots of variables will apply to each individual dog.

Some nutritionists rely on the (RER) Resting Energy Requirement to determine approximately how much food (actually how many calories) an average dog needs on a daily basis to maintain body weight. In spite of exceptions and variables, calculating the RER is sensible and useful.

Below is an approximation for an average dog’s resting daily caloric requirements:

Dog’s Weight in pounds Total Calories Needed Per Day

11 ………………………………………
……
456

22 ………………………………………
……
725

44 ………………………………………
……
1,151

66 ………………………………………
……
1,508

88 ………………………………………
……
1,827

132 ………………………………………
……
2,394
Sorry my post above doesnt read very well.

Dogs weight first followed by average calories per day required

11 = 456

22 = 725

44 = 1,151

66 = 1,508

88 = 1,827

132 = 2,394
For those who work in kilos (I still work in pounds too) 11 pounds is 5 kilos, 22 pounds is ten kilos, 44 pounds is 20 kilos, 66 pounds is 30 kilos, 88 pounds is 40 kilos, 132 pounds is 60 kilos. When I worked with greyhounds they were weighed in pounds, then this changed to kilos and we had to learn the new method, but I still look at a dog and imagine its weight in pounds.
