In the last few months i've started to gag while brushing my teeth,to the extent that I've actually been sick. Its now affecting me all day,in that I have a feeling at the base of my throat that I'm about to throw up. I've tried omeprazole tablets, but, they dont help. I'd appreciate any help.

Sorry I can't help....I get this all the time. Sometimes just thinking about brushing my teeth makes me gag. Most days it takes me three attempts. I have been sick on so many occasions it's become the norm.

Personally...I think it's all in the mind.
I feel sorry for you, nothing worse than a `gag attack`..te only time I get them is at the dentist or in the pub when I have a pee and someone`s had a dump in the cubicle

Thank you for a quick reply umm, tooth brushings have become a torment definetely, but, this new all day feeling of ready to retch is really horrible now. I do agree a lot of it is the mind, but, this latest thing has come out of nowhere.
I only get it in the morning. I cough, which turns into gagging.

I now do not brush my teeth when I get up....I have time to do this..!! I have my coffee and lounge for 20 mins. Brush my teeth really quickly...get dressed...brush my teeth really quickly again. Take the kids to school and then brush my teeth again.

Most people will not have the time to do that though...
Could it be your toothpaste? Careful when cleaning the back teeth or tongue (always clean the tongue!) this can cause the gag reflex if you're not careful.
Have them all out, that`ll cure it.
Use Arm and Hammer Enamel Care toothpaste as it is low foaming and make sure your toothbrush has a small head. This cured my problem and may help you.
What sort of toothbrush do you use? Large-headed, 'elbow grease' brushes make me feel that way too, especially when brushing at the back. These days I use a small-headed, electric toothbrush and I'm much better. My dentist is happier too - my teeth are much better cleaned. So it could be worth considering a change of brush type.

Until you can get the problem sorted, consider a daily rinse with something like Flouriguard to keep you teeth as clean as possible if you can't brush them properly.
are you pregnant?
