I am plagued with the problem of excessive condensation inside my Fiesta. I have tried various off the shelf remedies, ( impregnated cloths and wipe on fluids) , bot to no avail. The only way to alleviate the problem is to have the aircon active. Does anyone know what causes this problem to this degree?.

Has the car just been valeted? that for one will cause it, check the carpets within your front N/S + P/S!! are they wet? check under your bonnet in the direction of the front screen, are the drain holes clear? Door seal, are they cracked twisted? Heater Matrix there could be a water loss from the matrix leaking.
Have you had a windscreen replacement recently?

Twice I have had this where they don't refit the plastix bits under the screen properly, so water is directed into the ventilation.

There is almost certainly a leak somewhere. Feel under all the rubber mats to get a hint where it is happening.

Sit in the car with someone hosing it from outside and see if you can see a dribble around a door seal.
check the spare wheel well in the boot, i had a car once that had a small leak in the boot and had condensation probs and had to keep drying it out.

I use my aircon even in winter it keeps the seals lubricated and reduces the need for re gassing - and it takes the moisture out of the air - when I drive a car without aircon I am always reminded what it was like before I had this
