I am envolved in the collision 4 day ago on the 2 lane road which is emerge into 1 lane. I was on the right lane at the end of 2 lane road and there was the arrow sign that lead you to move into left lane. I make sure that I look behind to check that no car behind me and I also signal left to make sure other road user see me but as I move ( have to move across anyway because the 2 lane is come to an end ) half way to the left lane the car racing streight pass me on the left and scrape my rear wheel arch. the driver I pull over on the side of the road and the blame game begun, he said I was the wrong and I believe he is on the wrong. Anyway, there was not significant damage to both car so we decide not bother to make a claim to avoide insurance price increase but we swapt detial just in case.
Today I recieve a letter from his insurance inform me that they have recieve a claim from him, they waiting for the liability assessment to see hwo is to blame. I was shock because I thought we bouth agree not to make a claim. I am not sure what to do now beacuse I did not inform my insurance about the accident and at the same time I dont want him to point the finger at me as if I was the wrong. He was the one that hit my car. What should I do next?

Tell your insurance company.
agree with Grasscarp get your insurance company involved tell them what happened and let them sort it out
sorry why were you driving in the second lane when the 1st lane was empty ? were you one of these people who drive as far as you can so you get in front of all other traffic? sorry if i don't sound sympathetic but you must have known the lane was coming to an end there are sign way back so people have time to pull in SAFELY!!!! ,you are not in the right but think he may get the blame as he hit you which isn't very fair when you pulled out in front of him is it?
I also feel you were probably in the wrong. you pulled into his lane, and evidently he was already there.
sara3 . if he was already there - then was he undertaking.

it happens all the time on my commute, you just have to be MORE observant to bthebest driver.
just tell them your side of the story!
These merge lanes are becoming more and more common and conflicts like this happening more frequently. I'm sure I remember a junction like this in approaching Torquay which is marked "filter in turn" which makes sense and appears to work.
gsr...that's not undertaking. Undertaking is when you move into the left hand lane to pass a car. He was in that lane already.
merging lanes can be for a number of reasons " ie two roads meet to become one , or the end of a lane on a motorway going from " for instance " 3 lanes to two "
in either case the car / vehicle entering the lane should give way to the vehicle already in this lane which would put the blame on your shoulders. However in this particular case as the other car hit the rear of your car which would put the other driver at fault , he may be set to blame by the insurance company. the outlook on the decision in this case is sadly not clear cut.
No matter the outcome , i would advice your insurance of the incident and describe to the best of your ability the situation that caused this incident.
