New Sky Electronic Programme Guide - phone connection needed?

We have Sky+ HD and are due to get the updated Electronic Programme Guide soon (the letter arrived today). Can anyone tell me whether we have to have a phone line connected at all times to receive the update, or does it come in through the dish? We don't keep the line connected all the time at present because the socket doubler stops the phone from working. If a phone line is needed, can we connect temporarily every now and again and check for update manually?

Thanks a lot.

No you shouldn't need the phone line connected for the update.

You are however breaking the terms and conditions of your contract with sky by not having it connected.
Updates like this come down from the satellite direct to your Sky box, not via the phone line.
Unless Sky have changed the rules you only need the phone line link in place for the first 12 months of your contract. After that you can disconnect it.
... and if you don't have it connected during the first 12 months, what can they do?

Send the boys round?
I dont have mine connected to the phone line either, the engineer just advised me to plug it in if we have to call out any engineers in future, our tv guide has been updated
