Hey all!

Having had a lovely evening with my mum and stepdad over for dinner, and conversations over the last couple of days, I need some advise please!

Basicallly, I am being made redundant on 24th Dec or shortly after, :-( but will be getting a bonus for staying to the end of a dying company! However, my dad has contacted me to say that my cousins company are looking for someone to do a job I could do, and he has forwarded an email on from my cousin saying his boss is very interested in looking at my CV and I seem just what they are after!

My dad and other half are saying go for the new job an forget the bonus (£2000) because the new job is £3000 a year more then I am on now, but mum says I should stick it out and get my bonus!

I love where I work, and havent quite yet got my head round the fact that whether I like it or not my job will be gone within the next few months so all abit confused at the mo!

What would you guys do!?

I'd take the new job. If you hang on it might be gone. You'll have 2k but no job....
First I thought 'discuss with current employer' - dont think that would work........

go sick - take a chance on the new job.
How employable are you? Are positions easy to find in your line of work? If so, stick around and grab the bonus but if not, take the possibility of permanent work.

Hey ummm, It isnt a case of take the new job as I havent even sent hem my CV yet, just going by what my cousin said to my dad about me being what they are looking for.

Its weird! It took me a few years to get the job I wanted and I man really really wanted, then I got it, and the day I got told I was given the go ahead to do the qualifications that would help me loads, we sunk :-(

The few of us that are there, as my colleague says - We are there to hold on out and switch the lights of on the way out!'
Think i'm with ummmm on this one Wiggal,i would rather have a job than 2k without one, find out if they are going to take you on and take it from there, personally i would go for it!!

Good Luck x
A £2000 bonus sounds nice, a reward for loyalty and just before Christmas, but as ummmm says the job might be gone. You will recoup the £2000 plus half as much again within the first year so it makes financial sense to take the job. Loyalty is to be admired but practicality makes more sense.

Hey Captain Kirk,

I have done a year in credit control, then in the company I am at now I did a bit in payroll, then working in the franchise accounts dept for 2 years, and now have 8 months experience in the IT department, and I am 22! So dont think I am too restricted?
It's only 4 weeks till 24th December and you haven't sent your CV yet - it could take them that long to check you out, hire you and get you to start, so get that CV sent in and if you end up finising early and losing your bonus at least you've got a job! Good luck
Or..by the time they hire you (if they do) you might have already received your bonus. It's unlikely they will give you a start date before Xmas.
wots wrong with my advice? You could lose the new job after a month (hope you dont). Bad back is a great excuse!

Sorry tamborine!

Bad back or anything wouldnt work and I wouldnt be able to do that as although there are only 3 left in our team, (more then anywhere else in H/O!) the 2 blokes I work with are what make my job so great, I wouldnt do that to them!
ummmm is right - its only 4 weeks to christmas - its likely you would not start till the new year. Go for it - get your CV in there and good luck !
