Laptop connection?

How can the passenger in my car,during a trip, connect to the WWW on their laptop and would they be able to use the cars' cigarette lighter as a power supply?
Any advice please and many thanks.

Yes they can charge a laptop from the ciggie lighter

The only way they would be able to connect to the internet would be by using a 3G mobile internet dingle, but as these use a mobile phone network the coverage can be very patchy in areas and reception won't be helped by the fact they will be sitting in a metal box.

Thanks for that 'Chuck 'IT God & Lord of the Cyber Wave' Fickens'. I foolishly thought that if my TomTom can communicate with a satellite then a connection to a phoneline would be easy?
