before this happend my son would go and climb in to bed say good night light off close the door all would be fine, straight to sleep, since he was 3months old he slept through the night,

now one random thursday evening, nothing diffrent happened he just went absoloutly(for lack of a better word) mental, as soon as he lay down in bed, wiggly worm in the bed bright red tears snot (yummy) screaming mummy mummy then he would cry so hard hed go purple and this would last for a few hours,

at first i did go in each time he cried as i was so shocked, then i started going in once to make sure he was ok then leave again, but the second that light gets clicked off a huge scream of mummy would happen,
i really am surprised no one has come to the door to see if all is ok as he sounds absoloutly terrified but theres nothing wrong with him,
the second you open the door its either, mummy sit here or daddy sit here, and he stops crying.
i really dont know what to do, every few hours he wakes with an all might squeel,
i thought maybe night terrors but he does it before he falls asleep, he literaly gets so tired from cryin he falls asleep then when his batterys are re-charged he go's off again,
I have tried a night light, leavin the door half open, sitting outside talking to him, its been so long since iv slept its makeing me ill, through the day its just the usual toddler crying if you say no hed moan a bit but that all
Please help :)

If it is that bad and he is genuinely really frightened when you turn out the light maybe let him sleep with it on, you could say you'll let him have the light on if he is quiet and goes to sleep, then if it works you could try gradually making the light less bright each night, maybe a lamp, then the hall light, then a night light. I'd try to be very matter of fact and 'normal' talking in a happy voice, like its a positive thing to have the different lights, not asking him if he's ok or saying its ok, dont worry.
I feel sorry for you, that doesn't sound much fun. Aims answer is a good one, just leave the light on, maybe on a dimmer switch and you can leave it on its lowest setting all night. I would probably take him to the GP too, not for medication but for reassurance. There's nothing worse than child-induced lack of sleep so get as much rest as and when you can. I'm sure it's just a soon to be forgotten phase he's going through. Good luck.
