Importance of Being Earnest, by Oscar Wilde, I think. More than a century on, its wit and paradoxes still work.

The importance of being earnest is a brilliant play.  The old version on film with Michael Redgrave is brilliant, dont like the new version with Colin Firth though.

I studied Rosencratz and Guildernstern are Dead by Tom Stoppard at school and thought it was fab!

The only play I have ever seen in a Theatre was "The Tart and the Vicars wife " Quite good I thought.

Yes "The Importance of Being Earnest"  and works by the French playwright Eugene Ionesco in particular "La Cantatrice Chauve".

Surely the answer to that is subjective.  Can there be a "best" play or poem or novel etc.......?

 

I hate the run of TV programmes which ask us to vote for "the best or greatest" The contenders were great in their own way -  none was better or greater than the other.
