She is chatting away quite the thing but her diction is awful. None of her words sound clear and most come out as just grunts. Will this improve on its own?

I thought my daughter's speech was poor when she was about 2 and mentioned it to my health visitor who said she would get me a place at a speech therapy group but this didn't happen. However, my daughter's speech improved on its own.
Has she had a hearing test? This is the first step in identifying speech problems. Has the child's mother seen the health visitor about the 'problem'? or a doctor?

My youngest son had a speech problem which i noticed around the same age. When he had his age 3 assessment with the health visitor I asked her to referr me to a speech therapist for assessment. She diagnosed 2 specific speech problems and he went on to undergo speech therapy for approx 3 years. If you are concerned It may be worth speaking to your health visitor who is more experienced in a childs developement. Things may get better on their own but if she has got a problem it can be a long process to put right so the earlier you start that process the better in my opinion.
