Do you mean Godparent?
To help and guide the child morally and emotionally.
Its similar to being a godparent, but without the religious link.

its exactly as ummmm says.

Im guide parent to 5 wonderful children, they know that they can go to their guide parents with anything just as they would their parents.
Interesting,i've never heard of guide parenting before!
Is it a custom from America or somewhere that has made it's way over here?
Do they have the same rights as god parents? as in god children can live with them if anything happens to the real parents?
God parents don't have any rights - if you want your children to live with someone specific, you need to put that in your will. Even then that could be legally challenged by a closer relative.
